Shipping cosmetics in Saudi Arabia: heat, humidity and delivery to marketplaces
A guide for cosmetics brands and stores: why heat and humidity damage creams, perfumes and makeup, how to get your products to Amazon, Noon and Nice One intact, and 6 questions to ask any transport company before signing.

In a Saudi summer, the temperature inside a regular truck box can pass 50°C. A carton of creams, perfumes or lipsticks spends hours in that heat between the warehouse and the store, and arrives looking fine from the outside. But the product itself may have changed: a cream that separated, a perfume whose scent shifted, or a lipstick that melted and set again.
The problem is that you don't find out. Your customer does, when they open the product, and they write it in the review.
In this guide we explain why heat and humidity matter for cosmetics, which products need refrigerated transport, and how to get your products to online marketplaces intact.
Why does heat matter for cosmetics?
Most cosmetics are precise blends of oils, water and active ingredients. High heat can upset that balance:
- Creams and lotions: the oil and water can separate, and the texture changes.
- Serums and active ingredients: some ingredients, such as vitamin C, lose effectiveness faster in heat.
- Lipsticks and balms: they melt and lose their shape, even if they set again.
- Perfumes: heat and light can change the scent over time.
- Sunscreen: is affected by high heat and can lose part of its effectiveness.
- Natural products: those with few or no preservatives are affected faster than others.
An easy rule: read the product label. If it says "store in a cool place", "below 25°C" or "below 30°C", a Saudi summer goes past that limit inside a non-refrigerated truck.
Humidity: the risk many people forget
Heat isn't the only risk. In coastal cities like Jeddah and Dammam, high humidity affects the packaging before the product: cartons soften, labels peel or smudge, and gift boxes lose their shape.
In online retail, the box is part of the product. A customer who receives a damp box or a smudged label will return it, even if the product inside is fine. That's why good refrigerated transport monitors humidity too, not just temperature.
From your warehouse to the store: where does the chain break?
A cosmetic product's journey from the manufacturer or distributor to the customer's hands has several risk points:
- Pickup from the port or factory: the first point, and often the longest wait in the sun.
- Storage: a warehouse without temperature control ruins the product even if transport was refrigerated.
- Preparation and packing: opening cartons and preparing orders outside the cooled area.
- Delivery to online marketplaces: each marketplace, such as Amazon, Noon and Nice One, has its own receiving appointments, packaging rules and labels.
- Returns: returned products make the same journey and need the same care.
Any of these points can break the chain. The answer is one party handling the whole journey, with one log proving temperature and humidity stayed in range from start to finish.
A real example: Cozmena
BaridX handles refrigerated transport of Cozmena's beauty products and tools, stores them, then delivers them to the online stores that sell them, such as Amazon, Nice One and Noon.
Instead of dealing with one carrier for imports, a warehouse for storage and another company to deliver to each store, Cozmena has the whole journey with one party. That means clear responsibility and one log for every shipment.
6 questions to ask any transport company before signing
- Is the company licensed? Ask about its Ministry of Transport licence and its Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) licence.
- Can it prove the temperature? Ask for a temperature log of the whole trip, not one reading at delivery.
- Does it monitor humidity? Especially if you ship to coastal cities, or your products come in gift boxes.
- Does it offer storage? Refrigerated transport doesn't help if the product waited in a hot warehouse.
- Does it know marketplace requirements? Receiving appointments, packaging and labels for each store.
- Does it cover the whole Kingdom? Your customers are in every city, and the shipment should arrive in the same condition in Riyadh, Abha and Tabuk.
What about shipping perfume outside Saudi Arabia?
Perfumes follow different rules in international shipping, because most are alcohol-based and classed as dangerous goods for air transport. We cover this in detail in our guide to shipping perfume and batteries internationally.
